Since 1962, Fluiten has been designing and manufacturing high-quality mechanical seals at its facility in Pero-Milan. Marine Applications: Uncompromising Reliability
Fluiten’s mechanical seals, models MUV and MMSV, Lloyd’s Register certified, are engineered to meet the most stringent marine industry standards. A failure in the sealing system can lead to severe operational disruptions, including unscheduled downtimes lasting several days. For this reason, our products are designed to guarantee maximum reliability and longevity. The accepted standards in the application sectors served by Fluiten exclusively require the use of face mechanical seals. This technology ensures that the rotating ring is rigidly connected to the shaft, while the stationary ring is secured to the sterntube housing to maintain contact via a mechanical load provided by one or more springs, in addition to the hydraulic load generated by the fluid pressure. Appropriately sized sealing surfaces enable the formation of a thin liquid film between them, which is essential for proper lubrication and cooling. These solutions are internationally recognized as the standard for vessels over 24 meters.
Materials and Design for Extreme Conditions
Fluiten seals are manufactured using high chromium content steel to ensure supe-rior wear resistance. Versions with rin-gs made of sintered materials are avai-lable to withstand abrasive particles. In critical scenarios such as overheating or bilge fires our all metal systems of-fer superior reliability compared to ela-stomeric or polymer based alternatives.
Typical thrust loads on propeller shafts du-ring maneuvers or speed changes are absor-bed by a design that provides a high degree of elasticity, capable of tolerating substantial axial and angular displacements. Furthermore, an innovative cleaning system allows for effective management of potential fouling or scaling.
Additional Safety with Idrostop
The Fluiten Idrostop device, which can be integrated into the seal system, provides a static seal between seawater and the bilge, facilitating maintenance operations even while the vessel remains afloat. This system offers a reliable solution for safe return to port in emergency situations.
