The Fluiten seal type TC/12639 is an engineered solution developed for application on horizontal mixers used on storage tanks.
The mixer fitted on the side of the tank has the function of mixing the process liquid, preventing the heavier parts from settling.
These devices are used in the petrochemical, chemical, food, pharmaceutical and water treatment industries. In the Oil & Gas sector, horizontal mixers are used in large hydrocarbon storage tanks.
The mechanical seal must prevent the process liquid from leaking by sealing the space between the rotating shaft of the mixer and the tank connection flange. It must be made of materials compatible with the process liquid and be able to tolerate the run-out of the shaft subjected to the stresses derived from the mixer blades in the various operating phases.
But how can you maintain the mixer and the mechanical seal without having to empty the entire contents of the tank?
The Mixer manufacturer must design the machine to allow the shaft to be translated into or out of the tank and to ensure a static seal between the shaft and the connection flange.
The mechanical seal manufacturer must design the mechanical seal housing with an interface that allows this “shut-off” operation.
The Fluiten type TC/12639 seal is widely used for these applications. It is available in single, double or single with secondary containment version. The selection is made to ensure “controlled” emissions; the double pressurized version guarantees zero emissions into the atmosphere. In accordance with API682 indications, the seal is pre-assembled in cartridge execution.
The bearing incorporated in the seal is an option available where the machine manufacturer wants to ensure more rigid shaft support.
